The Ballantyne Suite was introduced by Simard et al. (2013) to describe a strip of microcline gneiss within the Rachel-Laporte Lithotectonic Domain in the Kuujjuaq and Ungava Bay areas (sheet 24K). As part of the Southeastern Churchill Province (SECP) synthesis, Lafrance et al. (2018) identified new lithotectonic domains within the SECP and moved the boundary between the Rachel-Laporte and Baleine domains to the west.
Following the shift of the boundary between the Rachel-Laporte and Baleine lithotectonic domains eastward, gneiss of the Ballantyne Suite were grouped by Lafrance et al. (in preparation) with siliceous granitic gneiss of the Ungava Complex (unit ApPung4b). This grouping is justified by the strong resemblance between these various migmatized gneiss, possibly of sedimentary origin and granitic composition.
