Background

The Seal Intrusive Suite was defined during the work of Moukhsil and Côté (2017) in the Wemotaci area, Haut-Saint-Maurice.

Description

The Seal Plutonic Suite is a lithodemic unit consisting mainly of granite mapped in the southeast corner of sheet 31P12. Analyzed samples contain 69-75% SiO2 and 4-5.6% K2O. These rocks are metaluminous (Maniar and Piccoli, 1989) and type I (igneous, Chappell and White, 1974).

The pinkish granite is medium grained, foliated and contains biotite, magnetite and traces of clinopyroxene. Plagioclase is sericitized and quartz has undulatory extinction; zircon and apatite are accessory minerals. Gabbronorite intruding into granite is greyish, medium grained, foliated and locally leucocratic. It is composed of plagioclase, orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, biotite and amphibole. This suite contains deformed metric to decametric klippes of paragneiss from the Wabash Complex and enclaves of the Pope Plutonic Suite.

Thickness and Distribution

This rounded unit is clearly visible on aeromagnetic maps. It has a diameter of approximately 8.5 km.

Dating

None.

Stratigraphic Relationship(s)

The Seal Plutonic Suite intrudes into the Pope Plutonic Suite. It also contains deformed klippes of the Wabash Complex.
