Background

The Ango Suite was introduced by Hammouche and Burniaux (2018) to describe K-feldspar megaporphyritic intrusions associated with strong positive aeromagnetic anomalies. These intrusions have strong similarities to those of the Lataignant Suite (Lamothe et al., 2000), but isotopic dating indicates that the latter is older.

Description

The Ango Suite comprises two large kilometric intrusions of similar composition and age: the Nichicun Pluton (nAnic) and Artigny Pluton (nAart).

The Nichicun Pluton consists of K-feldspar megaporphyritic biotite-hornblende-magnetite ± garnet granite (Hammouche and Burniaux, 2018).

The Artigny Pluton consists of massive K-feldspar porphyritic biotite-hornblende-magnetite ± garnet granite and quartz monzodiorite, locally granodiorite (Talla Takam et al., in preparation).

Thickness and distribution

The Nichicun Pluton is approximately 17 km by 10 km and is located in the La Grande Subprovince (sheet 23E03). The Artigny Pluton is approximately 25 km by 13 km and is located in the Opinaca Subprovince (sheet 23D15).

Dating

Two isotopic dating events were performed in the Ango Suite, one in the Artigny Pluton (nAart) and the other in the Nichicun Pluton (nAnic).

Stratigraphic Relationship(s)

The Artigny Pluton inttrudes into metasedimentary rocks of the Laguiche Complex and the Nichicun Pluton into those of the Rivière Salomon Formation. The two plutons contain enclaves of rocks belonging to host sedimentary units.
